Initial Assessment Team

Initial Assessment Team is the ‘front door’ for Adult Social Care in the Wigan borough. The team receives referrals from a variety of sources, requesting support for people in a variety of situations.

We provide information and advice, signposting to universal services in our borough and will also refer individuals through to our locality teams for further, more formal support if appropriate.

We aim to have different conversations with people, ensuring that we get the best possible outcomes for them by focusing on their individual strengths and aspirations as well as community resources.

Initial Assessment Team can be contacted online at or by phone - 01942 828777.

GP Noticeboards

Is Your GP Surgery Carer Aware?

Does your GP's surgery know that you care for someone?

Let them know next time you visit.

Most surgeries have noticeboards with Carer information on....have a look next time you go, check yours out, you may be surprised at what we can do to support Carers.

Does your surgery have a board like this?

Lottery Funding

Did you know?

Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre is a Lottery funded organisation?

GP Liaison

Would you like your GP to be aware that you are a carer?

It should then flag up on your records each time you have contact with them.

We would then hope they take this into account when treating you.

Did you also know that most of the GP surgeries have a 'Carers' noticeboard.  Have a look next time you need to visit.

If you would like us to let your GP know, contact us, either by e-mail, info@wiganandleighcarerscentre  or telephoning us on 01942 705959 with name of doctor and surgery you usually attend.

Please can we remind you, if unable to attend any booked training/appointments made at the Carers Centre, can you let us know ASAP

At this time we are fortunate enough to offer most of our services free or at low cost to Carers.

However, recently we have been experiencing a large number of no shows. People may not be aware the Carer’s Centre does incur a cost for services in terms of paying for trainers and Volunteers time.

We realise that things crop up and there is a need to cancel, all we ask is you let us know.

We recognise how much carers value these services and we would hate to lose them
