Let’s Get Digital Afternoon with Mark

Want to learn how to search the internet, set up and send emails or how to use that new iPad at your own pace? Fed up having to ask someone else to show you how to do things?

Then why not book one of the free one to one session with Mark one of our volunteers.

Tuesday afternoons, 1.30pm-3.00pm here at the Carers Centre

Appy Days: Connecting Carers

Date: Wednesday 16th May

Time: 1.00pm-2.30pm

Venue: Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre, Hindley

A free digital technology guidance session to help people get to grips with using tablet and mobile devices and troubleshooting digital problems. You can bring your own tablet, mobile or laptop and we will be here to offer guidance and help every step of the way. The Carers Centre has a wide range of training and activities for carers that provides support for them in their caring role and/or offers carers the opportunity to take a couple of hours away for themselves.

 

Dementia Awareness Session 1

Date: Friday 18th May

Time: 10.00am-1.00pm

Venue: Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre, Hindley

As part of Dementia Week this session gives Carers an introduction to dementia and some of the key features for carers who do not already have a good level of knowledge and awareness of these issues. It will cover the main types of dementia and explore difficulties experienced by people with dementia and some of the challenges faced by carers.

Me-Learning Courses for Carers

Wigan Council now have a wide variety of free training courses available that carers can access. While many are now delivered via an e-learning model there are some face to face courses available such as Medication, Moving and Handling of People and Infection control.

This is a great way to continue your learning around your caring role and build on your own personal development for any interests you have or to help you in getting back to work. You can also do as many as you want. Click here to see the list of possible me- learning courses.

Unsure about how to use an e- learning package, that’s not a problem, the Carers Centre can support you step by step.

If you don’t see a course that is of interest to you here but have seen a short course elsewhere, then why not apply for a Wigan Council Carers Training Grant?

Free Online Accredited Level 2 Courses now available 

Wigan and Leigh College are now offering you the opportunity to access Free Online Level 2 Courses focusing around Health and Social Care. The first four courses include

Understanding Safe Handling of Medication

 Awareness of Mental Health Problems

 Principles of Dementia Care

 Understanding of Autism

All courses are completed online but have an accompanying booklet and an assessor to help you along the way.

Eligibility Criteria

Over 24

Lived in the EU for 3 Years

Cannot be undertaking either an Apprenticeship or another NVQ Level2

This is a great opportunity for you to support you in your caring role or achieve a nationally recognised qualification at a time to suit you.
